Welcome to
Newport Arms Fishing Club

Home: Welcome

Where it all began...

Newport Arms Fishing Club (NAFC) began in 1988.
It all began as Newport had a strong fishing culture but unlike suburbs nearby, there was no established fishing club. A small group of 10 or so locals who shared their fishing stories over a couple of beers at the Newport Arms Hotel, decided to introduce some friendly competition into their fishing.
The Club quickly gained support from both the Hotel and the local community and was soon formally established to become the ‘Newport Arms Fishing Club’.
The hotel has since changed hands and is now known as ‘The Newport’ but the club remains loyal to the beginning, keeping our name as ‘Newport Arms Fishing Club’.

What is involved?

Our competitions are held on the 2nd weekend of every month at ‘ The Newport’.

The competition begins on the Friday at 3pm prior to the weekend with weigh-in on the Sunday from 12pm.

All eskies need to be at the weigh-in point no later than 1.30pm.

All the competitors who weighed in for that month, go into a draw to win a Fishing Voucher for that month.

We participate in a 3 Way Competition in the month of September

where we join the 3 local fishing clubs Newport, Narrabeen and Avalon, to bring the communities together

for our annual competition hosted at a different club each year.

The clubs members go head to head and try and bring in some big fish for their reigning club

with a BIG trophy and boasting rights on the line.

At the end of the fishing season in October,

we have our presentation night.

This is where we invite members and guests to reflect on the year that was

with our trophy presentation, dinner and dancing.

Santa also makes an appearance in December

in which we hold our Christmas weigh-in with fresh seafood, ham and lollie bags.
